The first community radio for farmers by UAS, India
31 May 2007

The University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Dharwad has become the first university in India to launch a the Community Radio Station (CRS) channel to help farmers. The channel will focus on issues concerned with farmers and agriculture.

UAS has launched the first community radio for farmers with the financial assistance of the Union Government. The catchline of the channel is ' by the farmers, for the farmers', which deals with issues related to agriculture. UAS will broadcast two hours programme each in the morning and evening. The effective radius of this FM is around 8-10 km since the capacity of the transmitter is very low as compared to All India Radio (AIR). The channel will also provide programmes on health, hygiene, environment, agriculture and technology. Apart from agricultural programmes, progressive farmers are also invited to give a talk on the channel to share the secrets of their success.
