The eINDIA 2007 Conference which was held in Hotel Taj Palace, New Delhi (India) during 31 July, 2007 to 3 August, 2007 ended with the i4d Award 2007. Seven ICT-based projects from various part of India earned the i4d Awards, for their contribution in the areas of digital literacy, electronic governance etc.
After a hectic process of two around of deliberation, seven jury member of i4d were able to extract seven nominations to be awarded in various categories. The i4d awards were given during the valedictory session held on 2nd August, 2007. Central Informatics Organization (CIO), Government of Bahrain, eFusion Pvt. Ltd., Sri Lanka and GDCO, Sudan received the i4d awards in the overseas category.
FIGHTING POVERTY WITHIN DISABLED THROUGH ICTa project was started in co-operation with the Digital City of Eindhoven (Netherlands-DSE) to enable disabled individuals efficiently accesses the ICT. The objectives are to train and employ the disables to achieve the inclusion (integration) of disables in the community and bridging the digital divide (gap) within this sector and also let them help their families. GDCO started training the disabled in groups and trained them for free, and when they finish training, GDCO will provide each one with a computer donated by DSE. GDCO established a Telecentre for the first group (8 deaf girls) and trained in it 80 poor orphans the revenue was divided 50% to the group and 30% to help establishing another Telecentre for another disabled group and 20% for deaf student Medicare. GDCO trained 8 of them (TOT) and they started training their colleagues and in a very quick way than before. GDCO is going to replicate this experiments in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan. GDCO received 400 computers from DSE to establish four telecentres for the deaf to help them sustain the life and help their families.
