Airtel plans to expand connectivity in rural area

The Business Line
Bharti Airtel is planning to expand its coverage in Karnataka, India especially in rural areas of the state.

Currently, Airtel covers more than 15000 towns and villages in addition to 260 urban centres in the state. The company is aiming to increase its penetration to 20,000 towns and villages in 2007-08. currently Airtel has covered about 61.3 per cent of rural population, 5,500 out of 5,682 gram panchayats are covered. The company is hoping to cover 2250 km of highways and 1425 km of railroads in Karnataka.
