The moving image grabs people's attention. So why limit yourself to passive engagement? There are a wealth of possibilities to produce your own content and share it with others. During the i4d Film Festival, we will be holding a workshop on learning how to script, shoot, edit, and share your own videos. We will show you how to use ordinary computers and both proprietary software that most of you will already have (Windows Movie Maker) or, as an alternative, a free GNU/Linux multimedia suite (www.dynebolic.org) that will be freely available on CD. The aim of the workshop will be give you the basics on how to create video content, and perhaps most importantly, to have fun doing it.
The one-day intensive workshop will be held December 10 at the I4D Film Festival, with a three day applied shooting and editing component over the three days of GK3. A drop in editing centre will be permanently located at the GK3 Exhibition Space for participants to edit their footage over the three days, facilitated by two trainers. It is open to all, but participants should ideally have:
- a MiniDV camera (or any other device that captures video, such as a digital still camera)
- a laptop (with a USB port and Windows XP or Vista)
- a strong interest in using digital video in their work: personal, professional, or both
These requirements are to ensure that they can apply these skills after the end of the conference. Participants will be expected to produce a short three minute clip by the end of the conference, based either on a theme they wish to explore as scripted in the workshop, or via contributing to the ongoing documentation and interactive activities that will be happening as a part of the GK3 sessions.
Spaces are limited. If you are interested, please click here and register by the 30th of November, 2007 or contact Sulakshana Bhattacharya at Sulakshana@csdms.in and please indicate what kind of laptop and camera you will bring and whether or not you have any prior experience with video. Participants are certainly not required to have any prior experience with video, but knowing if you do or not would assist us in tailoring this workshop to be the most effective.
